एक पल के लिए सोचिए: एक patient आपकी clinic में आता है, chair पर बैठता है, और सिर्फ 15 मिनट बाद एक brand-new crown के साथ बाहर निकल जाता है। ना कोई temporary crown, ना दूसरी appointment, ना हफ़्तों का इंतज़ार। और यह काम किसी dentist ने नहीं — बल्कि एक AI-controlled robot ने किया है।
यह science fiction नहीं है। July 2024 में दुनिया में पहली बार ऐसा सच हुआ, और January 2026 में एक peer-reviewed study ने इसे officially document भी कर दिया। आइए समझते हैं कि exactly हुआ क्या, यह robot काम कैसे करता है, और — सबसे ज़रूरी — एक Indian dentist के लिए इसका क्या मतलब है।
Exactly हुआ क्या?
Boston की एक startup Perceptive ने 30 July 2024 को दुनिया का पहला fully automated dental procedure एक human patient पर complete किया। Procedure था crown के लिए tooth preparation — यानी crown prep। जो काम एक dentist को आम तौर पर दो appointments और करीब दो घंटे लेता है, यह robot ने सिर्फ़ करीब 15 मिनट में कर दिया — यानी 90% से ज़्यादा time की बचत, और लगभग 8 गुना तेज़।
पहला trial Colombia में किया गया। और सबसे ताज़ा बात — January 2026 में यह milestone Journal of Dentistry में एक peer-reviewed study के रूप में publish हुआ। मतलब अब यह सिर्फ़ एक press release की बात नहीं, बल्कि scientific record का हिस्सा है।
एक interesting detail: company को ऐसे investors का support मिला है जिनमें Ed Zuckerberg (जो खुद एक dentist हैं और Mark Zuckerberg के पिता हैं), साथ ही Y Combinator और Pacific Dental Services शामिल हैं।
यह robot काम कैसे करता है?
इसका तरीका काफ़ी clever है — और इसमें सिर्फ़ “drilling” नहीं, पूरा एक smart workflow है:
1. Imaging (बिना X-ray के)
Robot एक handheld OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) scanner इस्तेमाल करता है। यह light beams से मुँह का एक high-resolution 3D model बनाता है — teeth, gums, और यहाँ तक कि tooth surface के नीचे के nerves भी। खास बात: इसमें X-ray radiation बिलकुल नहीं लगती।
2. Detection
यही scanner cavities को automatically detect करता है, claimed accuracy करीब 90%।
3. AI Planning
AI इस 3D data से पूरा procedure plan करता है — कहाँ और कितना cut करना है, यह सब पहले से calculate हो जाता है।
4. Robotic Execution
Decisions final होने के बाद robotic arm खुद tooth prepare करता है। Time-lapse video में यह लगभग एक CNC machine जैसा precise दिखता है।
ज़रूरी बात: robot पूरी तरह अकेले काम नहीं करता। एक human dentist imaging देखने, patient से discuss करने और plan approve करने के लिए मौजूद रहता है — execution के समय ही robot lead लेता है। यानी यह “dentist की जगह” नहीं, बल्कि “dentist के हाथ का extension” है।
तो क्या Indian dentists की job ख़तरे में है?
एक छोटी सी honest बात: अभी नहीं — और शायद वैसे नहीं जैसे आप सोच रहे हैं।
- यह अभी India में available नहीं है। US में भी यह FDA-approved नहीं है — company के CEO Dr. Chris Ciriello ने 2024 में खुद कहा था कि approval में कुछ साल लग सकते हैं। India में CDSCO/DCI regulatory clearance एक अलग और लंबा रास्ता होगा।
- यह महँगा है। ऐसी robotic system की cost Tier-2/3 India के लिए फ़िलहाल practical नहीं है।
- यह सब कुछ नहीं करता। अभी यह एक specific repetitive precision task (crown prep) automate करता है। Diagnosis, patient communication, complex surgery, और clinical judgment अभी भी पूरी तरह human dentist के हाथ में है।
लेकिन direction बिलकुल clear है। जैसे radiology और surgery में हो रहा है, वैसे ही dentistry में भी AI धीरे-धीरे repetitive, high-precision tasks को automate करेगा। इसका मतलब “dentist ख़त्म” नहीं — इसका मतलब dentist का role shift होगा: कम manual drilling, ज़्यादा diagnosis, planning, और patient relationship।
AI आपको replace नहीं करेगा — पर जो dentist AI use करेगा, वो उस dentist को replace कर देगा जो नहीं करता।
